Vitamins are chemical substances which body utilizes in various ways. It is present in the body and is the most essential nutrient for human beings. It is not synthesized by the body thus it must be acquired from outer resources. Green vegetables and fruits provide daily dose of this mineral to the body. If there is a lack of vitamins in our body it will lead to many dangerous deficiency diseases.
There are certain facts about vitamins which one should know, they are:
1.These are not synthesized in the body. Outer sources such as food and supplements supplies the essential nutrients required by the body.
2.A lot of these minerals in fruits and vegetables are lost between the farm and the plate. The longer the foods are stored before the consumption, the more nutrients are lost. Heat, light, and exposure to air all reduce these minerals, especially Vit C, thiamin, and folic acid.
3.Research has concluded that almost all types of diseases are produced by deficiency of these organic minerals.
4.Vit A is considered to be
the building blocks of the body. It is important for eyesight and healthy growth of cells and tissues in the body.
5.There are two types of these minerals, water soluble and fat-soluble. Of this water soluble are not stored in the body. Overcooking can destroy water soluble minerals.
6.Vit C and B-complex are water soluble and should be replaced each day. They are lost in urine, thus regular intake of these two minerals are very important in the body.
7.Fat soluble ones should not be consumed in excess as they are stored in the body. Excess of this can result in side effects. Like, an excess of vitamin A may result in irritability, weight loss, dry itchy skin in children and nausea etc.
8.Vit B9 or folic acid helps in producing DNA. Lack of folic acid can cause a form of anemia and also have birth defects in children.
9.Vit C is very important and is needed for many vital functions. It works in the absorption of iron, production of collagen (connective tissue) and in formation and repair of red blood cells. Lack of it can result in excessive bleeding and late wound healing.
Likewise many other types of these minerals help in some or the other functions. We need to have a balanced diet to maintain enough supply of these essential nutrients. Nowadays due to busy work schedule healthy diet has taken a backseat. Thus to cover this lot of supplements have been introduced. If these are consumed wisely and in right amount, these will add up to the daily essential minerals in the diet.
